At the frontier

captured by searchlights
chased by the trackhounds’ barks
they collapsed, were marched off into the haze
beyond the curtain wire
no one will ever know their names
they can look over the wall
but we can’t hear their cries
where you go and what you do always seems to be the same,
trying to elude the system has always been your plan
you’re at the frontier
we live in proximity but in two different worlds
people alike bearing the same unsettling past
they claim all men are equal under their law
but thinking outside the box might get you locked up
lay down the law
what you say and if you pray put on record by their spies
a mouth shut catches no flies
trying to escape surveillance is always on your mind
we’re at the frontier
you’re merging into the crowd
nobody in a nobody’s world
you’re a flag waving in the wind
but it’s still inside you
somewhere behind your enacted stare
